Your cash customers never get a review request

Most automatic review requests ride on something digital: an emailed receipt, a booking confirmation, a loyalty account. A customer who pays cash at the register leaves none of that behind. Whatever your software sends, they never see it.
Who pays cash, and why it matters for reviews
Cash is still common in exactly the places where reviews decide who gets the walk-in: food trucks, bodegas, barbers, laundromats, market stalls, tourist spots. Visitors paying with exchanged currency are a large share of it in a city like Miami.
If a third of your customers pay cash, a third of your happiest customers are invisible to every email-based review tool you could buy.
The register is the only touchpoint you have
With a cash customer there is no address to follow up with, so the request has to happen in the shop or not at all. A tap-to-review sign beside the cash register is the one thing that reaches them.
It also does not care how they paid. Card, cash or phone, everyone who stands at the counter sees the same sign.
Making it easy while they wait for change
Counting change takes a few seconds. Keep the sign on the customer's side of the register, angled toward them, so the tap happens while your hands are busy in the drawer.
Questions, answered
- Do cash customers leave fewer reviews?
- They are asked less, which comes to the same thing. Asked in person with a sign in front of them, they review like anyone else.
- Can I give a discount to cash customers who review?
- No. Offering anything in exchange for a review breaks Google's policy whatever the payment method.
