Seven mistakes that stop a review sign working
24 August 2026 · 4 min read
When a sign collects nothing, it is almost never the technology. It is one of these, and all of them are fixable in an afternoon.
The four that are about placement
Look at your counter and check:
- Facing the staff instead of the customer, which happens within a week of arriving
- Behind the card machine, where it is hidden exactly when it should be seen
- On a metal surface with no gap, so taps fail and customers stop trying
- Moved to a shelf during a clean and never put back
The two that are about the link
Pointing at a duplicate listing, so reviews land on a profile nobody sees. Or pointing at your Maps listing instead of the review form, which adds two taps and loses a third of the people who started.
The one that matters most
Nobody mentions it. A sign alone gets some taps; a sign plus one sentence from staff gets several times more. If reviews have stalled, that is the first thing to check, before moving the sign or blaming the chip.
Questions, answered
- How do I know if the link is right?
- Tap it yourself on a phone that is not signed into the business account. You should land on your review box with your business name at the top.
- How often should we check the sign?
- A ten-second test each month. Chips do not fail often, but counters get rearranged constantly.
