Where to put your review sign so people actually use it

The same sign collects five reviews a week on one counter and none on another. Placement and timing explain nearly all of that difference.
Put it where the hands already are
The best spot is within arm-reach of the card machine, because the customer is already holding their phone or wallet there and already facing you.
- Next to the payment terminal, angled towards the customer, not the staff
- On the table with the bill, in restaurants where payment happens seated
- By the mirror in a salon, where clients wait with their phone out
- On the service desk in a garage, where waiting time is dead time
The spots that quietly waste a sign
Behind the till, below counter height, next to the door where people are already leaving, or anywhere a customer would have to reach across something. If it is not visible and reachable in one movement, it will not be used.
The sentence that doubles taps
A sign alone collects reviews. A sign plus one spoken line collects several times more: "If you had a good time today, tap your phone here — it takes five seconds."
Say it while handing back the card or the receipt. Staff who say it as a habit are the single biggest factor in how many reviews a shop gets.
Questions, answered
- How many signs does one shop need?
- One per point where a customer finishes: each till, each service desk. Restaurants often do better with one per table.
- Should the sign be visible from the door?
- It does not have to be. It has to be visible at the moment of paying, which is when the customer decides.
