A review QR code on the receipt, or a sign on the counter?

A cashier tears a printed receipt from the cash register printer while a white Review us on Google tap stand stands at the front of the counter

Most cash registers and POS systems can print a QR code at the bottom of the receipt, so it is tempting to put your review link there and call it done. It costs nothing. It also mostly gets folded into a wallet or dropped in the bag with the shopping.

Where a printed receipt actually goes

Receipts are handed over at the moment the customer is packing up. Many decline them altogether. The ones that are kept get read later, if at all, when the visit is a memory and the review would take effort.

Thermal receipt paper also fades, and a small QR code printed on it at low resolution can be hard for a phone camera to read even on the day.

What a counter sign does differently

A sign beside the cash register is there before the customer pays, while they wait, and as they leave. It is large enough to read from the line, and a tap needs no aim or focus.

It is also seen by every customer, including the ones who say "no receipt, thanks."

Use both if your system allows it

A receipt code is not harmful, just weak on its own. Keep it if it is already set up, and let the counter sign do the real work. The two open the same review form.
