Collecting Google reviews at markets and events
27 August 2026 · 3 min read
Market traders meet more new customers in a weekend than a shop does in a month, and almost never ask any of them for a review.
One card by the card machine
A stall does not need a stand — it needs something that survives being packed into a crate. A card propped against the payment terminal, or attached to it, catches the moment a customer is already holding their phone.
Your listing has to exist first
Traders without premises often have no Business Profile. A service-area business listing works: you set a region rather than a shopfront, and reviews land there. Get it verified before the season starts, because verification takes days.
What to say in two minutes
"We are only here on Saturdays — a Google review is how people find us the rest of the week." It is true, it explains why you are asking, and it takes the same time as handing over change.
Questions, answered
- Does it work without wifi?
- Yes. The tag holds a link; the customer's own mobile data opens it. No signal on your side is needed.
- Cards or a stand for a stall?
- Cards. They are cheap enough to replace when one gets rained on or packed away in a box of stock.
